ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?  

This position reports to the Senior Buyer – Direct Materials for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJRTC) and is accountable for the end-to-end Procurement process within the assigned area of responsibility.

What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?

This responsibility includes spend authority for goods and services up to $200K in any single transaction, including the sourcing and management of a vast array of categories and commodities for one or more operating companies under a service agreement for all RAI affiliate companies and the global procurement function within BAT.

              Core Relationships: Internal Operations Team, R&D External-Vendors and Suppliers

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Manages supply base risk and performance and ensures appropriate strategies and key supplier management tools & activities are properly utilized to mitigate risk (Supplier Segmentation, FDA Relevant Assessments, Supplier Audits, Mutually Agreed Upon Material Specifications, Supplier Requirement Documents, Supplier Self Assessments, Material & Supplier Qualifications, Supplier Business Continuity Plan Assessments, Confidentiality Agreements, Supply Contracts, etc.).
  • Manages day-to-day supplier interfaces including Purchase Orders, discrepancies, deliveries, etc.
  • Analyzes quotations, makes sourcing recommendations, and negotiates cost.
  • Communicates with clients, suppliers, and other Procurement staff to ensure the timely delivery of, and payment for, required materials or services.
  • Collaborates with client groups to define and communicate item or service specifications or requirements.
  • Utilizing third party resources, facilitates the creation and management of contracts, RFx initiatives and auctions in the eProcurement tool, as well as the execution of accompanying purchase orders.
  • Develop and maintain category profiles (demand & supply, SWOT, key stakeholders, industry trends, cost model, etc.)
  • Facilitate discussions around business requirements, supplier strategy and category implications.
  • Support SRM process, supplier performance reviews and supplier development programs.
  • Benchmark category performance against external data and best practices and applies market research and analysis for recommendations made to client groups.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify cost savings opportunities, risk mitigation and value creation across the organization.
  • Supports strategic planning and the Procurement process for assigned commodities and services while exercising good business and analytical skills.
  • Develops, manages, and maintains supply relationships which provide a competitive advantage.
  • Makes decisions independently on problems and methods in order to arrive at recommendations for management.
  • Participates as a member of a sourcing team.
  • Performs spend analysis and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis.

ESSENTIAL

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2+ years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a value-added team member
  • Experience in project management

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated project management, time management, and team collaboration skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Possess core procurement skills in negotiating, contracting, supplier management, spend & data analytics, and supplier relationship management
  • Strong functional knowledge of computers, information systems, and Microsoft Office applications with an emphasis on Excel
  • Knowledge of overall business and corporate strategy
  • Ability to make sound and timely decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to research & gather market intel and benchmark
  • Broad understanding of procurement categories and/or commodities
  • Self-motivated, energetic, flexible, and adaptable to change

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Minimum 2+ years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a value-added team member
  • Experience in project management

  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) preferred.
  • Experience with SAP
